Sarcoidosis causesSarcoidosis causes are still unknown despite the many studies made by now. It is believed that an allergen is causing an inflammatory reaction of the immune system in people with a genetic predisposition. It does not seem to be an infectious agent, but several cases of sarcoidosis have been reported among health professionals working closely with patients suffering from this disease. In addition, environmental factors are being studied and may have a link, in the case of beryllium (used in the manufacture of aircraft), fir and other allergens. SymptomsAcute episodes of illness may occur from time to time and cause a temporary exacerbation of symptoms depending on the severity of the case and the affected region. But in most cases, affected people show no symptoms. Sarcoidosis is an occupational hazardIt has not yet established a relationship between sarcoidosis and the workplace. Some studies indicate that the risk of being affected by sarcoidosis is increased in people in rural areas. Some researchers have suggested that there might be a link between environmental factors and disease, but so far no study has confirmed this hypothesis. A study found that there was a high incidence of sarcoidosis among people who live near granite formations which contain high levels of beryllium. The clinical and radiographic signs of pulmonary berylliosis are very similar to those of sarcoidosis, but has not yet shown that beryllium was the direct cause of sarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis causes picturesOther studies have evaluated the occupational risk factors by comparing the incidence of sarcoidosis among industrial workers of the logging industry and among workers in other industries. It remains unclear what are the causes of sarcoidosis, even after many years of studies throughout the world. |
